Madi and Mark’s love story began long before the proposal, back when they were just 14 and 16 years old meeting at their indoor volleyball club in Brisbane. What started as a friendship quickly turned into a sweet high school romance. Nearly 11 years later, the couple have grown through every stage of life side by side, from school formals and graduations to years of long distance while Mark pursued his career as an Olympic athlete. Now living together in Adelaide, they’re still just as infatuated as they were as teenagers. Mark’s heartfelt proposal at Burleigh Heads, complete with a drone captured sunrise and a rainbow appearing moments after he got down on one knee, was the perfect reflection of their journey together: thoughtful, emotional and full of magic.
The Proposal
Mark proposed to Madi at Burleigh Heads on 27th December 2025
I always dreamed of being proposed to when we had our families around to celebrate with, considering they have been a huge part of the journey. We had just gotten home from a long awaited trip to Europe together, and had landed in the Gold Coast for Christmas. We were quite jet lagged all through Christmas so kept waking up quite early. On the 27th we were up at 4am and Mark decided we should go for a beach walk and take our drone out to "spot whales" off the coastline. It had just finished raining so I wasn't convinced it was a good idea but Mark was certain we should go.... we got a coffee and walked along Burleigh before finding a spot on the beach to watch the sunrise. Mark set up the drone then asked me to sit down with him. We cuddled up and he started talking about all our firsts and how special our relationship has been to him. It was such a nice moment to reflect on what we have achieved together. Then he got on one knee (with perfectly practiced posture) and asked me to marry him. It was a perfect moment, all videoed from the drone! Next thing a beautiful rainbow came out with the sunrise just to top the moment off. We then spent the day drinking champagne at the beach surrounded by family and friends.
The Ring
Madi's ring is a bespoke Class A design, east-west moval solitaire.
What is your favourite aspect of your ring?
I had always loved the idea of an east-west design - my decade old Pinterest board can confirm this! I wasn't sure what diamond I wanted until I locked eyes with the most beautiful loose moval diamond in the Class A showroom.
Why did you choose Class A?
We have loved living in Adelaide so it felt right to find a local jeweller here to represent this period of our lives. As soon as we stepped into the Walkerville showroom we felt so welcome. They educated us on diamonds and had a great selection to allow us to try out different styles. Once we saw our diamond, there was no turning back. We immediately felt that everyone understood our vision, making the bespoke design process feel easy-breezy. A big highlight for us was that they make their rings on site, it's such a nice touch and makes it all feel a lot more personal.
