The Proposal

Samuel proposed to Gabriella at Henley Beach on 5th April 2026.

It started as a classic Sunday — coffee and a yap before Easter lunch. A slow morning walk, coffee at Joe’s, followed by a spontaneous run… in the rain, obviously. Cute, wholesome, all very us. But then time started slipping away and reality kicked in, we don’t exactly live close to the beach, lunch was booked for 1pm, and somehow it was already 11.
Enter: mild stress. Which quickly escalated into my internal monologue going, “what’s actually happening here…” That feeling only got stronger when I spotted my friends… holding cameras. At which point the internal thoughts became very external: “Wait… what’s happening?”

There were a few seconds of distraction (and yes, some very important puppy photos), and then I turned around… and there was Sam. On one knee. Everything after that felt like a blur in the best way. What I didn’t know was that this wasn’t just a spontaneous moment, Sam had been quietly planning this for weeks. Nervous, excited, probably slightly stressed, all while setting up Easter lunch as the perfect cover so both our families could be together when we shared the news. He’d even learnt how to say “will you marry me” in Italian… but in the moment, all he managed to get out was: “Gabbi Egidio, will you do me the honour of marrying me?” And honestly, it was the easiest yes of my life.
