Proposal: 25th September, 2021
Location: O'Sullivan Beach
"Ryan and I were taking our dogs, Jax and Beau, to the beach, as per always. We both woke up reasonably early and therefore decided to take the boys early instead of later, as originally planned. Before heading to the beach, Ryan asked if we had any wrapping paper. I didn’t think twice about it because firstly, Ryan is constantly doing or saying weird and random things all the time, and it was his birthday so I assumed he wanted something for that.
On our way to the beach, it started to rain; although by the time we got there, the skies had opened up a beautiful blue with some gorgeous clouds. I thought the sky was that gorgeous, I had my phone out and was filming some of our walk and the ocean/sky, not realising what was moments away from happening. Whether it was due to the early morning or the rain, the beach was empty. We were walking along and then Ryan threw the ball in the opposite direction we were walking for Beau. We often do this for Beau as then Ryan plays with him and I interact with Jax, which is what happened on this day.
Ryan was, what I assumed, playing with Beau whilst I was doing some heel work with Jax (I was actually recording him as he was walking beautifully and being such a great distraction for me!) Beau started running towards me so as per usual, I started to record, where you can hear me yell “what on earth is that on him?” referring to the pink ribbon. Ryan chased after saying “it’s a birthday ribbon”. As explained above, Ryan’s weird and so random, so I yet again didn’t look into it and just laughed it off. When they reached me, Ryan told me to read what was on the ribbon. I still had no thought at this point because I was expecting it to say something for Ryan’s birthday. However, to my BIG surprise, it had the words “𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒚 𝑫𝒂𝒅?” on it. It was at this point I turned around to see Ryan on one knee. My heart stopped, the ocean noises stopped, the whole earth stopped. I was in so much shock and confusion, yet I felt so present at the same time. I turned back to Beau and fell to the group hugging him. Ryan then said “come here before you make me cry, and you know I have bad knees!!” I walked over to Ryan where he asked me those special four words. Wiping the tears away from my face, you know I of course said "𝐘𝐄𝐒"!
There was nobody at the beach, the sky was stunning, and I was with my three boys. It was so simple, yet so unbelievably perfect. Ryan and I celebrate 12 years together in December, having met when we were 16. I never needed a ring to know how loved I am by him, but now I guess we’re making that forever thing official."
