Epic Proposals

It’s hard to believe that “back in the day”, wedding proposals rarely even happened (due to being much more of a legal and financial arrangement than anything romantic!). Giving rings, let alone diamond rings, was a rare occurrence. When this did change, while significantly more romantic and momentous, the proposal still took place on a much smaller scale than we see today (and involved much fewer writings in the sky and doves flying out of cages, etc.).

Today however, thanks to social media among other things, proposals seem to be getting more and more impressive and outrageous. Don’t believe us? Read on for some truly epic, unforgettable proposal stories!

  • The Backup Dancer’s Proposal

Imagine not only being a backup dancer for J.Lo (literally every ‘90s baby’s childhood dream), but being proposed to while dancing on-stage at one of her concerts. Talk about unforgettable!

  • The Friends Fanatic’s Proposal

We’ve all seen at least one episode of the hit US sitcom Friends - it’s funny, it’s relatable and it’s filled with iconic moments. One of these was recreated by a couple at a FriendsFest event, replicating the scene where Chandler proposes to Monica in their candlelit apartment. On a set model of their memorable apartment, Friends fan Adam got down on one knee and proposed to girlfriend Claire, surrounded by candles and decorations of their very own!

  • The Drive-In Proposal

Katie had no idea she wasn’t just going to be seeing any old movie when her boyfriend Preston suggested they go to the drive-in cinema. When Katie’s favourite movie starts playing, she’s inevitably happy. But when the screen begins to glitch and a montage of clips from their past few years together begins to play, she’s in tears. Her boyfriend proposes, she accepts, and they’re joined by all of their closest friends to celebrate. Adorable!

  • The GPS-Tracked Proposal

10 points for creativity! This man connected his GPS tracker to his Facebook and set out for a jog, but this wasn’t just any jog. Undoubtedly requiring a lot of organisation and calculation, he managed to plan his route to spell out “Will You Marry Me”, returning home for his girlfriend’s answer with a bouquet of flowers and a ring. We love it!

  • The Road Trip Proposal

Going on a road trip with your lover is an exciting activity in itself, so adding a proposal to the itinerary is guaranteed to make for an unforgettable trip! This breathtaking spot in Aspen, Colorado was the site of Rob and David’s special moment - we can only imagine how epic their Instagram announcement posts were!

  • The Hot Dog Proposal

Now that’s a combination of words we never thought we’d be putting together. This woman was proposed to by her partner with 1001 hot dogs (buns included). You might be asking “But why?”. Well, it turns out that the couple met at a bakery that sold hot dogs, and the number 1001 stood for the number of days they had known each other. It all makes sense!

  • The Celebrity Proposal

If you're a married celebrity and your proposal story doesn't involve at least one over-the-top element, we're disappointed. Luckily for Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, their proposal story is perfectly extravagant (despite not going exactly to plan!). After a Valentine's Day dinner at a fine Italian restaurant, Bloom whisked Perry away on a helicopter ride. As he went to take out the ring and love note he had stashed in his coat pocket, he accidentally ripped his jacket and knocked over a bottle of champagne! But really...would you be mad?

  • The Fake Proposal

Ever wanted the post-dinner creme brulee that badly at a restaurant but didn’t want to fork out the extra cash for it? The solution is simple, fake a proposal. That’s what these besties from Austin, Texas did! The photos went viral on Twitter and the restaurant ended up finding out about it, but loved it so much that they invited the happy “couple” to come back and dine with them again!

  • The Hay Bale Proposal

Some of our lucky clients have also been proposed to in some wonderfully unique ways! Clint, according to Casey, is quite the "closet romantic". Just watch this proposal video she shared with us and you'll see why!
